Before you start

50 KB is a common limit for applicant photos. A phone photo is usually 2 to 5 MB, so it has to lose about 98% of its size.

Tips

Crop to head and shoulders first if the form wants a passport-style photo.
For an official passport or visa photo, use the page for your country instead: it also sets the pixels, the background rule and the head size.
Keep the photo well lit. Dark, noisy photos need more space for the same quality.

Questions and answers

Is 50 KB enough for a passport photo?

For most forms, yes. But some official rules set a minimum. The US visa photo, for example, needs about 53 KB or more at 600 × 600 pixels, so use the US visa page for it.

Why does my computer show 49 KB and my phone 50 KB?

Windows counts 1 KB as 1,024 bytes and phones count 1,000. SafeResize keeps the file under the limit both ways.
