Compress a photo to 30 KB

Reduce a photo to under 30 KB for an online form, and see its pixels and JPG quality before you download. Free, private, no sign-up, and no upload.

Before you start

30 KB sits between the very tight 20 KB limit and the 50 KB one. It is small: a phone photo of 3 MB has to lose about 99% of its size to fit.

The tool below opens with 30 KB typed in the size box. Add your photo and press "Make it smaller". The result page shows the new size, the width and height in pixels, and the JPG quality that was used.

Tips

Why a 29.8 KB file can fail a 30 KB limit

Computers count a KB in two ways, so the same file can show two sizes. With a 30 KB limit, the numbers line up like this:

Questions and answers

Why did my photo get smaller in pixels?

To stop it turning blocky. When the JPG quality would have to drop below 55%, SafeResize makes the picture smaller instead, but not below 400 pixels on its short side for that reason. The result page says when it did this.

What if the form says 20 KB to 30 KB?

Open "More options" and type 20 in "Must be at least". If the photo comes out smaller than that, SafeResize adds a hidden note to the file to reach the minimum. The picture does not change.

Is 30 KB enough for a clear face?

Usually, for a head-and-shoulders photo shown on a form. The result page shows the quality that was used. If it is below 50% and the face looks soft, crop closer and try again.
