Questions and answers

What size is the Turkish Passport photo?

The photo is 50 × 60 mm. The official rule: Print only (50 × 60 mm biometric photo). This document takes printed photos, so there is no file to upload. SafeResize makes a 4 × 6 inch print sheet with several copies at exactly this size.

What is the Turkish Passport photo size in cm, inches and pixels?

50 × 60 mm is 5 × 6 cm or 1.97 × 2.36 inches, in a 5:6 shape. Printed at 300 DPI it is 591 × 709 pixels, and at 600 DPI 1181 × 1417 pixels. These are conversions of the official size, not extra rules.

What background colour does the Turkish Passport photo need?

Plain white. Stand in front of a plain wall with no pattern, and face a window so there are no shadows behind you. If your wall is not plain enough, the photo maker on this page can make the background white with an AI that runs on your device. Check the edges around your hair afterwards.

How big should my head be in the Turkish Passport photo?

From the chin to the top of the head, your head should fill 70% to 80% of the photo height. The face guide in the tool shows both lines.

Can I wear glasses in my Turkish Passport photo?

The official rules say: Glasses only if you need them, with no tint, reflections or frames over the eyes; the consulate in Los Angeles asks for no glasses at all.

What photo does a baby or child need for the Turkish Passport?

The official rules say: Babies and children follow the same rules, alone in the photo.

What else do the Turkish Passport photo rules say?

Taken in the last 6 months with a good camera, sharp, evenly lit, not creased or damaged, on a plain white background with no pattern. Face and hair centred and fully visible, head straight, neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open and looking at the camera. No hats. Glasses only if you need them, with no tint, reflections or frames over the eyes; the consulate in Los Angeles asks for no glasses at all. The passport instruction prefers a white background for dark hair and a medium grey one for light hair. A headscarf is fine if the face shows from chin to forehead, with no shadows, and it differs from the background colour. Babies and children follow the same rules, alone in the photo. Bring 1 photo, in Türkiye or at a consulate abroad.

Can I take this photo at home?

Yes. A photo you take yourself can be used if it follows the rules above, but not a print from home: Türkiye's population directorate (NVI) does not accept photocopies or photos reproduced on a computer. Download the 4 × 6 inch print sheet and have it printed at 100% (actual size) at a photo shop, because the rules ask for colour prints from a photo lab, on good-quality paper (no photocopies or computer prints). Then cut along the lines.

Is my photo uploaded to SafeResize?

No. The photo is processed inside your browser and never leaves your phone or computer.

Please note: The passport instruction asks for a face height of 32–36 mm that covers 70–80% of the photo; on a 60 mm photo the two do not agree, so this page uses 70–80%, chin to top of head. Your photo is scanned when you apply, and photocopies or photos reproduced on a computer are not accepted, so have it printed at a photo lab.
