The photo is 26 × 32 mm. The official rule: Print only (32 × 26 mm, "tamaño carné": 32 mm high, 26 mm wide). This document takes printed photos, so there is no file to upload. SafeResize makes a 4 × 6 inch print sheet with several copies at exactly this size.
26 × 32 mm is 2.6 × 3.2 cm or 1.02 × 1.26 inches, in a 13:16 shape. Printed at 300 DPI it is 307 × 378 pixels, and at 600 DPI 614 × 756 pixels. These are conversions of the official size, not extra rules.
Plain white. Stand in front of a plain wall with no pattern, and face a window so there are no shadows behind you. If your wall is not plain enough, the photo maker on this page can make the background white with an AI that runs on your device. Check the edges around your hair afterwards.
From the chin to the top of the head, your head should fill 70% to 80% of the photo height. The official rules do not state this, so we use the international (ICAO) guideline. The face guide in the tool shows both lines.
The official rules say: One recent colour photo on a plain, uniform white background, taken from the front with your head uncovered and no dark glasses.
One recent colour photo on a plain, uniform white background, taken from the front with your head uncovered and no dark glasses. You hand it in person at a National Police documentation office, by appointment: for a first card within one month of arriving or of your permit being granted, and again for a renewal, a duplicate or a change of details. When a long-term resident renews the card, the foreigners' regulation asks for a photo that meets the DNI photo rules, which set the 32 × 26 mm size.
Yes. A photo you take yourself is fine if it follows the rules above. Download the 4 × 6 inch print sheet and print it at 100% (actual size) at a photo shop or on photo paper, then cut along the lines.
No. The photo is processed inside your browser and never leaves your phone or computer.
Please note: The Interior Ministry's TIE page only says "tamaño carné" (ID-card size). The 32 × 26 mm comes from the DNI rules, which the foreigners' regulation names for the renewal of a long-term resident's card, so for other TIE applications ask your police office if you are unsure.
