What the official pages say about the Uganda e-Visa photo

Uganda's visas are applied for on the Immigration Portal, visas.immigration.go.ug, where you start a new application and attach documents for your purpose of travel. For tourism they are the passport bio-data page, valid for at least 6 months, a tour plan, a travel itinerary or booking, a recent passport-size photograph and your hotel booking or address. Business visitors add a letter of invitation and their host's immigration status. The Uganda High Commission in Kigali wants the photo on a white background and reminds travellers that a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required to enter.

The single-entry tourist visa costs USD 50. Once approved, you get an approval letter by email, valid for 90 days. You then report to the immigration office or border post for biometric capture, with the uploaded documents, your payment receipts, the approval letter and your passport. The High Commission says applications are typically approved within 2 to 3 working days and advises applying at least 5 working days before you travel.

Questions and answers

What size is the Uganda e-Visa photo?

The official rules do not fix a pixel size. SafeResize makes a sharp 413 × 531 pixel file that fits every other rule.

What is the Uganda e-Visa photo size in cm, inches or pixels?

The official rules give no size in cm or inches, and on pixels they say: not stated; a recent passport-size photo. SafeResize makes a 413 × 531 pixel photo in the 7:9 shape of a 35 × 45 mm passport photo, our own choice that fits the other rules.

What file size does the Uganda e-Visa photo need to be?

Between 5 KB and 250 KB. SafeResize checks the size before you download, and keeps it inside the limit whether the website counts 1 KB as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.

What background colour does the Uganda e-Visa photo need?

White. Stand in front of a plain wall with no pattern, and face a window so there are no shadows behind you. If your wall is not plain enough, the photo maker on this page can make the background white with an AI that runs on your device. Check the edges around your hair afterwards.

How big should my head be in the Uganda e-Visa photo?

From the chin to the top of the head, your head should fill 70% to 80% of the photo height. The official rules do not state this, so we use the international (ICAO) guideline. The face guide in the tool shows both lines.

What else do the Uganda e-Visa photo rules say?

A recent passport-size photo (the business visa list says taken in the last 6 months), uploaded with your other documents. The upload accepts JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF files of 5 KB to 250 KB. After approval you report to the immigration office or border post for biometric capture, with your documents, approval letter and passport.

Which file format should I use?

JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF. SafeResize saves a JPG (JPEG) file.

Can I take this photo at home?

Yes. A photo taken at home is fine if it follows the rules above. It is easier if someone else takes it for you.

Is my photo uploaded to SafeResize?

No. The photo is processed inside your browser and never leaves your phone or computer.
