What the official pages say about the Rwanda Visa photo

Rwanda's entry visa can be applied for online, on the IremboGov portal at irembo.gov.rw, or on arrival at Kigali International Airport and all land borders. Online, you choose Visa Application under Immigration and Emigration, give your details and travel information, attach the documents for your visa type and submit. A free visa goes straight to the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration; for a paid one, the portal gives you a billing number starting with 88, and you pay at Bank of Kigali or by Visa or MasterCard.

Irembo gives the processing time as 4 days, with a price that depends on the type of visa, and you get a notification from the directorate when the status changes. Each attachment is listed at 500 KB: the scanned photo with a white background as a JPG, the passport biodata page and any letter or certificate as PDFs. Citizens of the countries on Irembo's list need no visa for stays of up to 90 days, so check it before you apply.

Questions and answers

What size is the Rwanda Visa photo?

The official rules do not fix a pixel size. SafeResize makes a sharp 413 × 531 pixel file that fits every other rule.

What is the Rwanda Visa photo size in cm, inches or pixels?

The official rules give no size in cm or inches, and on pixels they say: not stated in pixels. SafeResize makes a 413 × 531 pixel photo in the 7:9 shape of a 35 × 45 mm passport photo, our own choice that fits the other rules.

What file size does the Rwanda Visa photo need to be?

Up to 500 KB. SafeResize checks the size before you download, and keeps it inside the limit whether the website counts 1 KB as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.

What background colour does the Rwanda Visa photo need?

White. Stand in front of a plain wall with no pattern, and face a window so there are no shadows behind you. If your wall is not plain enough, the photo maker on this page can make the background white with an AI that runs on your device. Check the edges around your hair afterwards.

How big should my head be in the Rwanda Visa photo?

From the chin to the top of the head, your head should fill 70% to 80% of the photo height. The official rules do not state this, so we use the international (ICAO) guideline. The face guide in the tool shows both lines.

What else do the Rwanda Visa photo rules say?

Attach a scanned photo with a white background as a JPG of up to 500 KB, together with a PDF copy of your passport biodata page (up to 500 KB) and any other attachments for your visa type. Paper applications at embassies also ask for a colour photo on white, with no hat (Washington) and both ears showing (Stockholm).

Which file format should I use?

JPG. SafeResize saves a JPG (JPEG) file.

Can I take this photo at home?

Yes. A photo taken at home is fine if it follows the rules above. It is easier if someone else takes it for you.

Is my photo uploaded to SafeResize?

No. The photo is processed inside your browser and never leaves your phone or computer.
