To upscale an image without AI, SafeResize's Fast mode makes it 2× or 4× bigger with Lanczos resampling and light sharpening on your device's processor, and downloads no AI model.
| How Fast mode enlarges | Lanczos resampling, then light sharpening that leaves faint grain alone |
|---|---|
| What it never does | Make up new colours, add halos, or redraw faces, text and logos: each new pixel stays within the pixels around it in your picture |
| Biggest picture | 16,777,216 pixels (4096 × 4096 for a square), with no side longer than 8,192 pixels |
| AI mode | Only if you choose it, on devices that can run it. Its model is downloaded then, not before. |
Some pictures must not be redrawn: a logo, a screenshot with text, a product photo, a scanned document, or a face that has to look like the person. Fast mode makes a picture 2× or 4× bigger without AI. It uses Lanczos resampling, a long-trusted careful way to enlarge, then light sharpening that leaves faint grain alone. Nothing new is drawn in: no invented skin, letters or edges.
This page opens the image upscaler, which starts in Fast mode. On devices that can run it, the tool also offers AI mode, but the AI model is downloaded and used only if you choose AI. Fast mode runs on your device's processor and downloads nothing.
In plain words, for a picture made 2× bigger:
Choose your picture on this page, pick 2× or 4×, keep Fast, and press "Make it bigger". Fast mode is chosen when the page opens. Then compare before and after with the slider, and save a JPG or a PNG.
After you choose a picture, the page runs a tiny test with made-up numbers to see whether your device's graphics chip could run AI mode, so it can offer the choice. The test does not download the AI model and does not use your picture. The model is downloaded only if you choose AI.
No. It does not redraw anything: every new pixel is worked out from the pixels around it and stays within their colours. Faces, letters and logos keep their shapes, only bigger and a little sharper. It cannot add detail that was not in the picture.
On small, blocky pictures, AI mode can look cleaner, but it can change faces and text a little. On clean pictures the two look much alike. When a picture must stay true, such as a logo, a document or a face, Fast is the safer choice.
